MY STORY
My Last Three Shorthairs, Kodie, Tillie and Dazzle
My name is Ann Harris and I have been involved in dog sports since 1981 when Mike and I obtained a german shorthaired pointer as a pet. The following year the breeder of "George" asked if a friend could show him and I saw no reason why not, so off he went - not a job he enjoyed and being a solid liver took rather a long time to finish, but finish he did. George and I got involved in obedience and field and despite my lack of knowledge this dog did it all. He was Ch. George of Pointers Pleasure, CDX, FD - what a dog but he had me hooked - having come from the horse world competition was no stranger to me and something I loved.

So you can't just have one shorthair and Raffe came into our lives. She was meant to be a pet but never say never and Raffe became Ch. Our Graffe of Hunters Glen, CD. Raffe didn't enjoy being one of a pack and we found her the most amazing home where she lived out her life with very special people.
Then we had Ch. Huntersglen Quillspoint Dana, CDX, # 2 shorthair in Canada in obedience and she was followed by Penny, Ch. Huntersglen Penny From Heaven, CD, FD, CGC and Penny and Dana were full sisters. Penny was bred 3 times and is the mother of many champions and field titled dogs.
Then my beloved Dazzle entered our lives, she was a Penny daughter - what a crazy girl she was, you couldn't keep 4 on the floor as a puppy but she developed into an amazing dog. Unfortunately she suffered from ACL's in both back legs, but after 2 successful operations she was in the top 10 GSP's in the field the year she competed for her F.D. title. We shot 200 chukar over her during a period of 4 years - she never failed to point and even pointed a rabbit which we shot and she retrieved. I don't remember her ever taking a bird out and when we finally got her to retrieve she never failed to do so. Because of her ACL's she never competed in obedience.

Then along came Kodie, what a character - Kodie was Ch. Huntersglen Kodiak Bear, CD, FD, CGC - and he ruled the roost for many years.

And last but not least my special girl Am./Cdn. Ch. Huntersglen Designer Bear, FDJ, aka Tillie. Tillie was a Kodie daughter, she was without a doubt the soppiest german shorthaired pointer I ever owned, but she was so willing to try. I took her to the 1998 American german Shorthaired Pointer Nationals - I hoped to make the cut. That year there were 171 bitches (40 in her class) and she not only made the cut but she took the five point major owner handled and went on to finish her American show championship with another 4 point specialty win. There will forever be an empty hole in my heart when I lost this very special dog - cancer took her from us at the young age of 8.

And finally came Tess - now Am./Cdn. Ch. Jayhawker I'm A Teddy Bear Too, Am/Cdn. CD, Am/Cdn. RN, AGIJS AGNS- we decided to downsize and I still wanted a pointing dog - having trained Chelsea I really liked the breed and found my girl in Calgary, Alberta. She has been an absolute delight, is a fun enterprising dog, however, she is NOT a shorthair and her range is huge - if she ever gets a field title it will be amazing, but her bird work is wonderful - so you see you can't have it all - she's a wonderful pet, a fun agility dog, a phenomenal obedience dog and without doubt the best house dog I've ever owned.
